How domain registration works

You select a domain and extension, check whether it is available, and complete registration for the chosen period. Availability and prices change, so a name is not reserved until the order is successfully completed and confirmed.

Different extensions have different registration requirements and pricing. For Nigerian businesses, both .com.ng and .ng are possible options to investigate, while .com is commonly used for an international-facing brand. Your ideal choice depends on audience, name availability and the extension's rules.

How to choose a domain people will remember

  • Keep it easy to spell aloud, even over a phone call.
  • Avoid hyphens or unusual characters unless they are part of your recognized brand.
  • Check for confusingly similar business names or trademarks.
  • Confirm renewal costs, not only the first year's registration price.
  • Register it in an account you control and maintain a working renewal contact email.

Buy a domain or hosting first?

You can register a domain before building a website. If you want to launch immediately, you will normally also need hosting or a hosted website-building platform. A domain can point to hosting from Estha or elsewhere with the correct DNS settings.

What happens after registration?

Look for confirmation in the client portal and keep your billing contact information current. Configure the domain's nameservers or DNS records for your website, email or other services. Some changes take time to be seen globally because of DNS caching.
